Walk the Land. Read the Story. Feast Over the Coals.
The red cliffs, woodlands and shores of Rustico Bay have been here a lot longer than we have — and they have stories to tell.
Join celebrated Island naturalist and author Kate MacQuarrie for a guided walk through the living history of PEI’s North Shore. This land has been read, walked, and tended for thousands of years — first by the Mi’kmaq, whose deep knowledge of this landscape, its plants, and its seasons shaped everything that came after.
From the ancient sandstone beneath your feet to the wild plants at the water’s edge, Kate will show you how this coastline has shifted and shaped itself since the ice retreated 13,000 years ago. You’ll discover which plants the Mi’kmaq and Acadian communities relied on for food and medicine — and why so many of them are still thriving here today.
Rustico is celebrated for its rich cultural history — but the natural history of this place is just as profound. The land itself is a living record, as layered and remarkable as any archive, and it has been shaping the lives of the people here long before the first settlers arrived.
You may have known Rustico Bay your whole life. You’ll leave seeing it differently.
Then pull up a chair and dig into a feast of fresh, local PEI fare, cooked Over the Coals the old-fashioned way.
This is PEI — untamed, unfiltered, and right outside your door.
