We are so excited to be hosting Karen Gallant Art in her new gallery space

KAREN GALLANT ART GALLERY

..is nestled inside the beautifully renovated Discover Rustico Building — the former St. Augustine’s Credit Union — this welcoming building is a branch of the Farmers Bank of Rustico & Doucet House Museums, located just 1 km up the road on Route 243, beside St. Augustine’s Parish Church.

Inside, explore Karen’s evocative paintings alongside works by other talented local artisans, and take home something truly unique to Rustico and the Island.

A BUILDING WITH STORIES TO TELL – Layers of Community History

Origins – This building began its life as a small country store — the kind of neighbourhood anchor that once defined rural Island communities.

1938 – St. Augustine’s Credit Union was chartered, part of a proud movement that saw 72 community-based credit unions flourish across Prince Edward Island throughout the 20th century.

Mid 1940s – After the Credit Union moved in, Amos Gallant’s store operated from this very building while his own store was rebuilt following a fire — a testament to how neighbours rallied together in times of need. The Cymbria Lions Club held their meetings in the basement — evenings of fellowship, service, and laughter echoing through these walls.

1996 – St. Augustine’s Credit Union closed its doors after nearly six decades of dedicated service to the Rustico community

Today – Lovingly renovated, this space was reborn as a welcome centre and now a gallery — where heritage and living art come beautifully together.

THE ARTIST – Visual Artist Karen Gallant brings her luminous, otherworldly paintings to this storied space — Karen Gallant fills the space with beautiful art inspired by the sea, the land, and the stories passed down through generations of Island life. Working in acrylics and mixed media, her pieces capture the quiet spark at the heart of those tales — the light, the landscape, and the people who shaped this place.

Along side Karen’s paintings, her gallery showcases a thoughtfully curated selection of local artisans, offering one-of-a-kind finds that carry the spirit of Rustico. Visit in person or explore her art online at karengallant.com
